Madatz Program

MADATZ LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Madatz is a seven-week summer leadership training program that prepares young adults to become future Jewish role models. Post-Grade 11 youth are eligible to apply.

Madatz live, learn and work together as a close-knit group. For many participants, the Madatz summer is one of the most formative experiences of their youth – a summer of personal growth and of making friendships that last a lifetime.

The Madatz program is designed to build and enhance participants’ communication skills, develop programming ideas, explore their creativity, learn about child development and age-appropriate activities, and tap into their own unique strengths.

Senior Madrichimot (counselors) plan the Madatz program and work closely with the Madatz kvutzah (group) throughout the summer.

Studies have shown that young people who complete leadership programs like Madatz are more likely to assume leadership roles as adults.

Summer Program

First Session: Madatznikim arrive at camp before the younger campers so they have the opportunity to meet the staff and get settled in.

During first session, Madatz work closely with their own madrichim (counselors) to learn basic leadership skills. They also have the opportunity to start to put those skills into practice by helping the staff run camp-wide activities like evening programs; working with a particular kvutzah (age group); and sharing their unique interests and skills like sports or arts & crafts with the chanichimot (campers).

Second Session: Madatz play an increased leadership role in second session, participating in the planning the educational program with the tzevet (staff). They also work much more closely with their assigned kvutzot and the counsellors for that particular age group, including sleeping in the cabins with their chanichimot and going on the overnight trip with them.

At the end of the summer the Madatz stay one day after the rest of the chanachimot leave to debrief on their experiences.
